Fourth Colour is an emerging Black British film studio based in Bristol. We are developing original films in which Black characters can be funny, romantic, difficult, ordinary, strange and unforgettable—not because identity has disappeared, but because it is large enough to contain a whole imaginative life.
Our active slate moves across dance drama, romantic comedy, thriller and documentary. The genres change, but the point of view remains: culturally specific work can also be ambitious, entertaining and commercially alive.
A studio is more than a slate
For us, a studio is not only a name placed above individual productions. It is a system for retaining knowledge, developing talent and building intellectual property over time. That means making films, but it also means creating useful infrastructure around the films.
The Screen Producer Handbook is part of that infrastructure. So is this journal: a place to share opportunities, resources, practical production thinking and timely observations from the screen industries without pretending useful information must be secret to be valuable.
From Bristol, with a wider horizon
Bristol gives Fourth Colour a specific starting point: a city with a strong production ecology, deep Black British history and a complicated relationship with who gets to shape its cultural image. Our work begins here while looking towards national and international audiences.
